Have you heard of kiva.org?

Kiva is a website for micro-loans. Basically, you put $25 in, and you choose from one of the many people or projects on the site to support. The person, usually someone in poverty who needs start-up capital, uses your donation and donations of others to buy what they need. You might, for instance, be helping someone buy a sewing machine so she can start a business as a seamstress. But here's the cool part- it's a loan.

Over 98% of the time, that person will pay you back. At that point, you can either take back the $25, or you can re-donate it to a new project. You can re-donate the very same $25 again and again, helping people all over the world to get back on their feet.

Even better, Kiva is currently running special free trials, which means that just for signing up, you can get $25 to loan to someone. It costs you absolutely nothing (for the time being) to be a part of helping someone of your choice.

I can't wait to show this website to my class. Together, we are going to find someone we want to donate our $25 to. How cool is it to be able to give this a try with your class for free?

You can go here to find out more about how to donate for free.

If your class joins Kiva, I would love to hear about it!
